Tickets are on sale for the Elgin Community College Foundation Gala: Dare to Dream, a Sept. 17 fundraising event at which the achievements of students, faculty and staff will be recognized.
The 2022 honorees are Tom Roeser, ECC Friend of Education; Jeanne Sigman, Exceptional Friend of the ECC Foundation; Kayla Chase, Distinguished Alumni of the Year; Jacob Arndt, Esteemed Recent Alumni; and John Duffy, an ECC board trustee, Lasting Impact Award winner.
JPMorgan Chase, represented by Leslie Maloney, also will be presented with a Lasting Impact Award.
The event will start at 5 p.m. at The Q Center, 1405 N. 5th Ave., St. Charles. Tickets are $100 through Sept. 2.
For anyone wishing to view the event online at 7 p.m., tickets are $25.
Proceeds go to the Resources for Excellence Fund, which provides students with scholarships and emergency assistance.

The South Elgin Police Department is hosting a school supply and nonperishable food drive now through Friday, Aug.12.
Donations should be dropped off from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday in the police department lobby, 10 N. Water St. Items will be distributed through the South Elgin Food Pantry and school district U-46 and 303.

Elgin Community College has partnered with the Kane County Office of Community Reinvestment to offer job skills training services through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.
The act is a federally funded program for helping people gain skills necessary to start or advance their careers, a news release said. Through it, anyone who qualifies can have costs for books, tuition and supplies covered.
Accelerated training programs will also offer career counseling and support to match job seekers with local employers.
Upcoming programs include basic nurse assisting; pharmacy technician information technology; truck driver training; welding; supply chain management; automotive; adult education.

Goodly Creatures Theatre will present William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” at 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, in Festival Park, 132 S. Grove Ave., Elgin.
The play is being presented free of charge and centers on a wrongly ousted duke’s use of sorcery to conjure a storm so he can seek revenge on the survivors of a shipwreck, including the King of Naples and his treacherous brother, as well as the perils of young love.

Kids will be able to climb on board an Elgin fire engine, police car, ambulance and other vehicles from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 8, in the parking lot of the Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin.

Auto enthusiasts can show off their vehicles or check out the vintage cars that will be on display from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 9, in the parking lot of Panton Mill Park in South Elgin.
No registration is required, and the event at 10 N. Water St. is free for attendees and participants. The concession stand will be open and a food truck onsite.
